Brianna We use Availity RCM clearinghouse for billing and there is a spot to put the clia # – use on original claim. If I was you I’d call Home State and question them and denial code or try rebilling without the clia number. Sorry for the late answer been gone….
We are also getting denials for hemoglobins for the following reasons: invalid clia number or No Authorization on file that matches services billed. I spoke to Laina Tobias at Home State yesterday regarding these issues. She said for Clia waived procedures such as the Hemoglobins, you should put the Clia number and a QW modifier after the procedure code. According to Laina, you should not get denials if you do this. She stated Home State will be sending this information to providers soon.
Sorry…I hit submit before I was finished with my post. Anyway, if you do what I mentioned above it should take care of the denials regarding the invalid clia number. As for the denials “No Authorization on file”, they are still checking into this trying to determine why this is happening.
For Home State you have to add the TC modifier along with your CLIA number. It’s the only one I’ve found that requires the TC modifier with the 85018, and I get paid every time.
