Just like Erica, we also do all the insurance leg work beforehand. Everything is pre-planned and as well laid out as possible. It is complicated, but since we’ve done it several years, we have most of their residents’ and staff’s insurance on file, so that makes it easier now. We have the nursing home fill out insurance paperwork so that we can run their insurance ahead of time. They also have to fill out a consent form for each person and have them sign it or their guardian. Then I make a list of everyone getting shots and their insurance status and which stock we are giving them (VaxCare, 317 or private stock). Then when we get to the nursing home, they are waiting on us and have all of their residents in the lobby and dining room, and they line them all up, bring them through, and just tell us who they are so we can get out their consent form and so we know what stock to give them from looking at the list. We do the same for schools and any other satellite flu clinic we are going to, which is 14 places total. If you would like more information or a copy of our forms, please call me at 573-226-3914.
