I really enjoyed the Billers Workshop and it was so great to all get together. For those of you that bill commercial insurances, have you successfully billed any of the following services?
    -Pregnancy Testing
    -STD Counseling and Testing
    -TB Skin Test
    -Venipuncture or Cap stick

I recently learned these services could be billed to Medicaid but wasn’t sure about commercial payers.

    Thank you,

One problem you will run into is co-pays and deductibles. Sometimes the copay is more than you will charge for the service. TB usually gets paid but it’s considered preventative. I think we have been able to get a one to two-dollar payment for venipuncture if the deductible is already met. We have not tried billing insurance for std counseling and since std testing is sent to the state we don’t bill for it.

I think one of the overall problems is that Public Health is a pink unicorn and payors/insurance don’t know how to treat our claims.
